Würzburg seats surprisingly reminds Prague, but I like it even more. The city is very ancient for him almost 1300 years. Prague Charles Bridge very much resembles the old Main Bridge, also decorated with figures of bishops. But in Prague there is no fortress on the hill. The Fortress of Marienburg and the Residence on the opposite banks of the river.

The Würzbzrg was subordinate to the Roman Empire of the German nation directly to the Kaiser in Vienna and therefore had the status of a free city. And at the same time there was a bishop residence. The power of "Prince Church" was very competing with the authorities of the municipal, sometimes overwhelming her. The bishop power ended with Napoleon. He, by the way, stayed in the residence on the hill and called it the "most luxurious Popovsky house." The residence is simply luxurious and undoubtedly caused envy at Napoleon secularized property of the church. Prince-Regent Bavaria (its actual ruler with a lavertible king) Luitpold was born in the residence.
The residence is the beautiful "Würzburg Baroque", the cultural heritage of mankind in the UNESCO list and the main tourist facility in the city. It is famous for the frescoes on the walls and the ceiling. Some of them are Thippolo - the last representative of the Venetian school.
Not so easy to get into the palace residence. Better of course car, but parking paid. Tram 1, 3, 5 to stop the house goes from the main station there, and from Juliuspromenad the bus 9 right to the residence itself, but only from April to October. Fortress Marienberg

History of Christianity
Würzburg is the administrative center of Lower Franconia - part of the federal land of Bavaria. Symbols of francs: red and white rhombuses, and Bavarians blue and white. Franks in ancient times lived from Amsterdam and to Franconia, and then the Bavarov tribes were already. And this is the first Germanic people who became Christians. Würzburg is the angle of the so-called Main triangle - the famous Franconian forest. In the early Middle Ages, he was under the power of the Meroving, the missionaries from Ireland came here. The most important exhibits of the history of Christianity are collected in the Museum of the Am House (the house indicates the cathedral, that is, the Cathedral with the Episcopian Department). These are plastic, paintings on Christian themes starting from the 10th century to the present day, as well as the treasury of the cathedral.
Other sights
From the point of view of architecture in the city, the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus Grafeneckart), Fountain "Four Destroyers from Pipes" - Vierröhrenbrunnen. All these objects are on any tourist map. But still the main thing is the residence. An important museum is a museum in a cultural storage (Cultureshpayher), it is located in the old port. It has a good collection of art 19-2 centuries. What to try
The embankment adorns the old crane (Alten Kranen). This is a small brewery with traditional Franconian cuisine. The most interesting thing is not the knob (as in many parts of Germany), and the baked pork blade is blown along - shoofel, with potato chees (round dumplings) in a dark beer sauce. This is exactly what it is impossible to go from here. Franconian cuisine is often confused with Bavarian. Rather, the Franconian accept for the Bavarian. It has a lot of wonderful sausages for frying (bathama), for example, Nuremberg. It is generally a lot of pork (and in Bavarian just a lot of beef). It is easier and even gross Bavarian. There are good wines in peculiar bottles Boxer Boxing (the area of the allowed winemaking is called Franken), a good beer Würzburger Hofbrä. This brewery recently bought a beer giant in Kulmbach. There is a small manufacturer of sparkling wines SEKTKELLEREI J. Oppmann. In general, this is perhaps the only place in Germany where wine and beer do not contradict each other.
Different delicious things can be bought in two markets: Grüner Markt (Green Market) and Spezialitätenmarkt (regional delicacies market). Both are trained almost simultaneously at the bottom of the MarcPlatz Square, on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday (from 8 to 18 hours) and on Saturday (from 8 to 16 hours)

In general, the town is ancient, calm and prosperous, but boring. For a week or day, three you will spend here with great pleasure, but then of course you get bored.
