The fact that the port is the only city on the planet, where the real wine "Porto" is produced, not only the Portuguese are sure - now I am sure of that! My husband and I went to Porto on the auction, which were held local houses of winemakers. But it turned out that they were left here for a whole week of rest under the cloudless sky, among the unforgettable architectural monuments, two steps from the modern beach with the purest sea! We started and ended the day on the beach. In the afternoon, I tried, imitating local residents to "hide" in a restaurant, where we were tasty and cheaply fed with local dishes or go on a tour of a cool place. The port is very proud of our winemakers. Wine here drink everything and, probably, constantly! :) This pector of the keeper of the secrets of winemaking is taken to serve a bottle of young wine even to breakfast! But my husband and I refused such a treat, because the heat plus wine could prevent us from enjoying the beautiful views and just a good company of our partners. Oh yes. It should be noted that the wine (the younger) can be mistaken for grape juice here - it is as sweet and at first glance its smell and the taste is not foreshadowed anyone ... well, except from the awesome fragrance! But in five minutes you will understand how much "mistaken"! :)
But Portuguese cuisine we studied here by tasting. I even brought home the recipe for a green soup (Caldo Verde). Very similar to our green borsch, only instead of sorrel dodate spinach and oregano. And we most often ordered something like a seafood casserole, in which the shrimp was prevailed with a nice restaurant, which inside resembles a village hut and serves the dishes exclusively Portuguese. This is the restaurant "Restaurante o Escondidinho", on the street Rua de Passos Manuel, 114.
We showed a railway station, which inside looks like a work of art. All walls are covered with painting, which tells about the history of the city and the country. I have not seen such a beauty even in India! Here it was possible to simultane more than one hour if we were not in a hurry to see as much as possible.
I also could not refuse a small "raider to local supermarkets - here it was just a sale of summer clothes and shoes. Surveyors in supermarkets here begin in the middle of the season from a discount of 20-25%, and by the end of the season you can buy things very famous brands Even for 15-20% of the primary price. It is best to shop in the eastern part of the city (Baixa), i.e. "Nizhny District". Here at every step there are boutiques with very beautiful and fashionable leather jewelry.
We walked along the famous embankment Vila Nova de Gaia, which is already in the suburbs of Porto, but the locals are all trying to challenge affiliation to this city and want to remain a separate town :). Hence the most beautiful view of the city of winemakers! During the walk, we have repeatedly tried to treat the fuaster of local wine - so the Portuguese tries to attract not only tourists, and the exporters of this wonderful drink.
Here I want to return again and again. This city lives for some of its laws. For a day, they live as if two days: before lunch and after the siesta. Well, to visit the churches, museums, make very profitable purchases in supermarkets we decided in the next arrival. The port of us fascinated with their availability - here people even, if they do not understand the Russian language, are trying to explain to gestures. The city wants to understand us and be understood by us - this has it to friendship, that we will return to him!
