Most of our acquaintances, if you choose holidays in Croatia, then depart on the Istria peninsula. We decided to violate the current tradition and sent our bodies that were tired of work and domestic worries, in Dalmatia, namely to the island of Korchula.
To get to the goal, we flew from Dubrovnik to the bus to the port town of Orebich.
With his pier every half an hour left the ferry on Korcula. Funny, but the bus drove directly on the ferry. So we went to the island. The journey took only 15 minutes, and we are in place. To this day I remember the juicy landscape, which appeared to our astonished look. Turquoise waves of the Adriatic Sea argued in the depths of paints and placer shades with a cloudless sky. The terraces, seized grapes with ripe closes, went down the steps to the water stroit. The roofs of the bright, zero-orange tiles fit harmoniously into the general view of the city with powerful fortress walls of the medieval building. The city of Korcula (the island of the same name), it seemed to us the most fabulous of all cities of Croatia, which we had a chance to see.
As it turned out later, this opinion is adhere to not only we, but also many Germans, Italians and the French who come to spend their holidays here. Maybe the cost of living also played its role - it is below the mainland percent for thirty.
The island itself is a pretty elongated form, the city of Korcula is located on the end that is closer to the mainland. The most important, the main part of the town is located on the tiny peninsula, extending to the sea, on the hill. I started acquaintance with attractions from here, from the central cathedral. This place is located on the hill, therefore everything is clearly overlooked. From the cathedral rays, streets are diverged by stone. The photo of the temple did not work successfully - he was mostly closed by forests, reconstruction work was carried out.
We are not lovers of a noisy crowd of tourists covering the lens in the most reverent moment of photography. Therefore, they tried to visit historical places and architectural monuments in the morning early. We visited the Fort built by the British in 1813. He did not make a special impression. More like the view opening from the hill on which the Fort is located.
If anyone in Korcula, we recommend taking bikes for hire and visit near Lumbard and Vel-Luka. In the first place, you can greatly relax on the magnificent sandy beach of Vela Przina Beach and wander among shady vineyards, in abundance of crowding around Lumbard. Before the town of Vel-Luke, on a bike, to get a long time, we roared the order of two hours. But the surrounding landscapes are worth it! And the air is clean, so the journey although there is a long but pleasant one. In addition, fatigue traveled by bus, paying additionally for bicycles (baggage). There is no historic center in the town, as in Korcula. Especially struck what streets without names are simply numbered. The most beautiful place, in my opinion, is a pedestrian walkway, stretching along the sea shore and drowning in a dense green greenery. From Vel-Luke you can get to the island of Hvar on the catamaran. But he sails just once a day early in the morning, so we did not seem to visit there.
As for the beach holiday, it was necessary to buy beach slippers - the bottom of the capricious, with pebbles. The sea seemed cool, but then they had dirty and bathed increasingly. The only thing that really pleased is the purity and transparency of water.
The overall impression of the time spent on the island of Korcula is positive. Especially pleased that our compatriots were little. Did not like the prices of seafood dishes in local cafes - too expensive. Often pamper yourself with a tasty and such useful food did not work, but I would like it! But prices for ordinary products in ordinary supermarkets were struck by their democraticness. Coloric photos of old towns and amazing sea color remained for memory. Next time in Croatia, they will take a rafting on the Cetina River - Friends told the standing thing!
