Villa Ormond (Villa ORMOND)
This villa is located in the east of San Remo and is famous for its magnificent gardens, full of rare and exotic plants. Following the Colombo Square along Corso Garibaldi, you can easily get to this park, walking along Cavallotti Street, bypassing Villa Zirio and the City Hall. Villa belonged to the family of Ormond. Pastunci's poet even wrote about her: "Some Madame Ormond bought a secluded family of Rambaldi's family, and soon demolished this white villa along with arcades and loggias, and even breaking the English garden with the root."
In fact, Villa Rambaldi, where Dr. Ormond lived, a rich Swiss businessman and his wife Marie Rena, French poetess, was very destroyed during the 1887 earthquake, and the couple decided that they would not leave the house, deciding to global restoration and restoration. An architect from Geneva was invited, who conceived to place a villa in the far part of the garden, and the villa itself rebuilt so that she looked luxuriously. The building was surrounded by a large terrace, and the entrance was decorated with a Renaissance portion. Inside the villa, you can see large caisson ceilings and a fireplace in the living room, which was brought from Doria Dolcekva castle.
Later, the villa was bought by the mayor of the city, who made the villa and the garden of public, and a large fountain added to the park, and the top of the villa was equipped with an exhibition pavilion. Below in the building of the villa, you can see two statues: one in memory of Mexican Ignacio Altaimirano, the poet, historian and a politician who died in San Remo, and the other - in memory of the king Montenegro Nikolai I, who was also a guest of the city. Today, the International Institute for Humanitarian Law is located in one wing of the villa.
