Agia Pelagia is a quiet resort in the heart of the northern coast of Crete. When my family and I chose a beach holiday place, our main criteria were silence and the proximity of the capital and the airport. You may not believe what happens, but Agia - Pelagia is as follows.
First dignity. The town of Agia Pelagia is located away from the national route, on the protruding peninsula. To get to our bus, there was a few kilometers to circling on a steep serpentine.
This is a real, not a hotel Crete. Outside of our hotel, Citen's country possessions spread. In the morning it was possible to observe the work of real Cretan farmers, for harvesting, grazing rapus. No tourist endline, everything is very natural and vital.
In the most Agie-Pelagia, a sufficient number of hotels for every taste and wallet. Locals also actively rent their apartments. The town has all the infrastructure for a full-fledged holiday - shops, pharmacies, doctors, bars and discos. It is possible to order an excursion in numerous travel agencies. Very good choice of souvenirs. I really liked Cretan shops selling our own, not Chinese, things - leather shoes, textiles, ceramics. There are a decent selection of leather and fur stores.
The second important dignity is the proximity of Heraklion. Agia Pelagia is located 25 km away. This is one of the most closest to the capital of the Crete Resorts. Despite the distance from the route, a regular bus regularly goes to Agia-Pelagia. I very successfully got on shopping in Heraklion and was able to come back without any problems. However, if you are afraid to get out of the hotel on public transport, or not strong in the driving of the car, this resort may seem deaf.
Beaches of Agia-Pelagia are located in the bays and bays. Therefore, when in Chania or Rethymno Red Flag, we can almost always swim. Like everywhere in Crete, here is a rocky entrance to the water, however, in the town itself, the beach is sandy and very pleasant. It is worth capturing with you special shoes if you have little children or you yourself do not like stones.
