Mikkeli stands on the shores of Lake Saimaa.

MANNERHEIMIN SALONKIVAUNU)
The salon car was created in the 1930s of the last century for Finnish President of Finland 1944-1946 Charles Mannerheim. This car was part of the train, in which there were also two more sleeping cars, a restaurant car, a car for personnel, an anti-aircraft car and car carriage. The cabin of the commander-in-chief consisted of a salon, five bedrooms, a kitchen and toilet. At this train, Karl Gustav Emil made more than a hundred travel.
Particularly interesting was the trip during his 75th anniversary, during which he accepted personal congratulations from Adolf Hitler. For the last time, Mannerheim had already committed as president in 1946 (before that he was Marshal and then regent). After the death of the president, the CEO of Finnish Railways ride in this car. Museum "Suur-Savo" (Suur-Savon Museo)
This is a cultural and historical museum, where you can learn more about the local culture, from the era of distant ancestors and to the present day. Total - about 8,000 exhibits. The exposition of the museum takes several buildings, but the most interesting is held in the main building. Very interesting, the exposition of the household life of the peasants of South Savo (actually, South Savo - the area in the south-east of Finland with the center in Mikkeli). Simultaneously with permanent exhibitions, temporary (almost always 1-2 temporary) are held here.

Church of the rural arrival (Mikkelin Maaseurakunnan Kirkko)
This church is big, wooden. Look for it in the western part of the city. The temple was built in the first quarter of the 19th century. By the way, this is the third largest church in the country. At the same time, it can accommodate up to 2,000 people. Architects took the best traditions of Lutheran churches as the basis, and the church turned out to be quite simple, with blond walls and the roof of the dark color, but with a complex shape.
In the church, the vintage bells of the middle of the 18th century are stored. Inside the temple is very light, very strict. The church is open only in the summer. Free admission.

Mikkelin Tuomiokirkko Cathedral (Mikkelin Tuomiokirkko)
The main church of the city is built in a non-neutic style of red bricks, covered with a tiled roof. The church was erected at the very end of the 19th century. The cathedral is very spacious, can accommodate up to 1,200 guests at the same time. Since the 60s of the last century, the bell tower works near the cathedral, and there is an organ of the middle of the last century. Impressive a massive altar depicting the scene of the crucifixion of Christ. Next to the temple is a cute svverik with a pond. By the way, there is a believer that if you go on the bridge, passing over this pond, then the riddled desire comes true. It is worth checking! Entrance to the temple is free.

Naisvuoren Nakotorni Observation Tower
This tower costs almost in the city center. And this is the highest point of the mickel, because, in addition, the tower is high (about 40 meters), so also stands on the hill, which, by the way, is called the "female mountain". It is called so, because during the Russian-Finnish war, women watched from this hill at how fighting on the front occur. The tower is made of white stone. Before the site can be reached on the elevator. There is also a restaurant serving the dishes of national Finnish cuisine. True, it seems, only in the summer. Also at the beginning of the summer, this hill passes a children's festival with songs, dancing and clowns.

Kenkavero Manor Museum
This is the residence of the parish priest on the shore of the lake. The building was built back in the 15th century, and then this house was 5 centers of the spiritual and material life of the town. But by the end of the last century, the construction was in perfect decline, so that the authorities of the city took urgent restoration measures. So the house became a museum where exhibits associated with local art and craft are exhibited. Also in the museum there is a restaurant serving traditional delicacies, and a store with souvenirs. Summer here is very romantic, because the estate surrounds a picturesque garden with the sea of flowers (more than 500 species). Entrance to the estate free territory.

Mikkeli Art Museum)
The museum is located in the heart of the city, opposite the Cathedral. This museum has been working since 1970. There you can admire the works of Finnish artists of the late 19th-late 20s. In the main mass, these are paintings in the style of expressionism and postmingness.

Museum of Infantry Troops (Infantry Museum)
The museum has been working since the 82nd year of the last century. There are objects associated with military affairs, or rather, with infantry troops. In the halls of the museum - documents, military uniform (about 70 copies), weapons (120 machine guns, for example) - from 1881 to today. There is an exhibition in the 3-year-old chambers of the 19th century.
