In this small, but cozy town on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey, tourists come precisely because to visit those attractions and historical places that the local land rich. After all, it was here that at one time there was a once prosperous Lycian state. Although the date itself is a city with a fairly large history, which has more than twenty-five years of age, from the old days of traces is practically left. But in its surroundings, the ruins of many ancient cities are preserved, which played a big role in the life of this region. In many of them, excavations are being conducted to this day.
The most famous and significant cities of the Lycian state, who probably know or heard about him all tourists who come to travel to Turkey is a demre. His story is quite interesting, but it is famous for the fact that during the reign of the Roman Empire, the bishop in the local temple served Nikolai Mirliki, who everyone knows more than St. Nicholas or Nikolai, the miracle, lovers of children and the patron of seafarers. The name of Millicine comes from the name of the city of the world, which during the times of the Lycian state wearing the city of Demre. The Church of St. Nicholas has long been a place of pilgrimage of believers from all over our planet. Although at the moment the temple does not work and is a museum, nevertheless, several times a year the divine services are held here, which are gathering clergy and believers from different countries.
Inside the church is a sarcophagus, in which Nikolai Wonderworker was buried. Part of the relics in 1087 was abducted by the Italians, who are currently located in the territory of Italy in the Basilica of St. Nicholas of Bari. Another part of the relics is now stored in Turkey. They write that they are in the temple of St. Nicholas in a demre, at least such information is presented in Wikipedia, but in fact it is not. There was such an interesting case. An unknown woman left the overtakes at the door of the Church of St. Alpius in Antalya, saying that it was the relics of Nicholas the Wonderworker. After the analysis conducted, this fact was confirmed, after which the remains were placed in the Museum of Antalya. How they got to her, remains a mystery. At the moment they are in Ankara. And last year there was another miracle, the sarcophague, which is in the church Demre, began to make peace, which caused even more interest of tourists and just pilgrims. I did not miss such an opportunity to lean the cross to the place of peace.
Visiting the church is a paid and entrance ticket worth fifteen lire, which is about seven and a half dollars. Church is open from 8.30 to 19.30 from April to October months, and in the winter period from 8.30 to 17.00.
Not far from the Church of St. Nicholas, at a distance of walking distance, there are ruins of the ancient city world, where rock burials are preserved, an excellent amphitheater and some buildings. There is also a large number of iconic and souvenir shops, but I want to warn that in the town itself, where there is a temple, similar icons can be bought much cheaper.
This is due to the fact that tourists who go on a tour of the Demrem-Kekova, first driven to the boron sites, where they sell icons. Therefore, if you visit these places through a tourist company, and not on your own, then you are not hurry to buy icons or souvenirs near rock burials, guaranteed to overpaid.
Even closer to the date, at a distance of ten kilometers, there are ruins of the ancient city of Limir, which during the reign of the pericles became the capital of the Lycian state. Its foundation refers to the fifth century to our era. The city periodically destroyed after raids of Sracinov and strong earthquakes. Currently, ancient necropolis, bathing and theater, the construction of which refers to the second century of our era is well preserved. Nearby there is a grave and Pericla himself, although there is an assumption that it is not there, where it is officially accepted, but on the top of the hill, the foot of which is located the city. This assumption is due to the fact that on the hill the outdoor decoration of the necropolis in its style is more suitable as the ruler's mausoleum. Excavations continue now that the Austrian scientists lead. Entrance to the territory of the ancient city is free. From the finnote to the limi, it is possible not only by car, but also by renting a bike, thereby aligning visiting the sights with a pleasant cycle rocherk.
The north of a chip, kilometers in thirty, are the ruins of another rather significant city, which even minted his own coin. This is an antique aricanda, the first mention of which relate, as well as the Limir to the fifth century to our era, although it is assumed that the city was founded on the place of the more ancient settlement, which is about five thousand years of approximate age. Here the theater was preserved quite well, which was built in the second century, the stadium, city walls, the Acropolis, the largest bed of bed in Likia. In addition, the ruins of the temples of Heliosa and Trajan are preserved here. As in other Lycian cities, the tomb complex is located here. The ruins of the city stretched over a distance of one and a half kilometers. After one of the strongest earthquakes, when the city was significantly destroyed, the remaining population left him. The ruins of the city archaeologists discovered only in the nineteenth century. From the ancient cities that are located near the finnight, this one is most preserved.
Approximately forty kilometers from the date, on the shore of Kekov, the ruins of the city of Symen remained, the story of which, as well as other Lycian cities, belongs to the fifth century BC. Due to its location and convenient port, its harbor was very popular among seafarers of the time. But in the second century, also as a result of a strong earthquake and the displacement of underground formations, part of the city fell under water, as a result of which the inhabitants completely left him. At the top of the hill, the ruins of the Lycian fortress are preserved, which is the attraction of Siemen. Also preserved the ruins of the ancient buildings and sarcophages in the form of a launched boat, some of which are located in the sea.
Their images on postcards and advertising booklets are a kind of business card of the city of Symemina. The local population is less than one hundred people who are engaged in fishing, agriculture and tourism. You can get to Siemene on a yacht from a finney or from porridge. Usually, the yachts are used for such an excursion, in which glass portholes are made in the bottom to see the sunken city over which it sails.
You can talk about all interesting places in Distician district, I described only some of them that, in my opinion, are the most interesting. In addition, if you arrive in this resort town with children, then be sure to go to the Amusement Park '' Murat '', where you can ride the carousels or machines. There is even a small ferris wheel. The cost of one token is three lira, or a half dollar. Next to the Lunapark there is a small water park. Of course, it is not compared with Antalist, but children will enjoy.
