Pskov is essentially a very unique city with a richest history. If you consider the number of architectural monuments per square meter of urban area, then Pskov will definitely put on one of the first places among all available tourist destinations in Russia. There is an incredible amount of both religious and civil facilities of the period of the twelfth - sixteenth centuries, and absolutely not affected by the Mongol-Tatar raids.
The Pskov Kremlin is certainly considered the most inimitable building in the city. It differs significantly from such structures of Moscow, Tver and Smolensk in that it absolutely did not affect the influence of Italian architecture. It can be said that the Kremlin is built in a very brutal style, very characteristic of the buildings of the free Pskov Republic of the fourteenth-sixteenth century. The Pskov Chross (Kremlin) is very reliably in the old century defended the city from enemy raids and even considered one of the largest European fortresses.
Where in Pskov there are two rivers - Great and Pskov, once there were an ancient settlement. And today the historic center with walking alleys and well-groomed embankments is comfortably located there. Along the river bed, the unreasurable stronghold of the Pskov Chrome extended. And near one of the towers on the lower lattices, another river - Pskov begins, if desired, it is possible to go through the arched hole made in a powerful stone wall.
During the reign of Prince Dovmont in the thirteenth century, another stone building was erected for additional strengthening of the Pskov Kremlin. But to this day, only the remains of the walls and temples have been preserved from it, which as unnecessary were covered in the eighteenth century. Well, by the beginning of the nineteenth century, the territory of the Domontova of the city and came to complete launch.
Trinity Cathedral in Pskov was built in the manner of Moscow architecture. It was built on this very spot in the seventeenth century, and before that there was a wooden temple, built in the tenth century by order of the Great Princess Olga. The Cathedral keeps the power of two great Pskov Princes - Dovmont-Timofey and more Vsevolod-Gabriel.
Although the exact date of the foundation of the Pskov Kremlin is unknown, but the mention of it is found in the "Tale of Bygone Years". That is, it was built before, but it is just known that the guard towers to enhance its defensive functions were built in the fifteenth century. Then there were whole forty pieces, but before our time, unfortunately, not all of them came.
The ordinary chambers in Pskov are an administrative structure that was built in the seventeenth century. In fact, this is the only construction of this kind in the city, perfectly preserved to the present day. This is a rather powerful stone building with walls of two-meter thickness and metal four-tight roof. Nowadays in this building there is a city cultural center.
At Mount Sokolich in Pskov, in the twentieth century, a monument was erected in memory of the heroic events of 1242nd, when representatives of Western Christian orders once again tried to seize the richest Pskov and Novgorod lands. The monument is called - "Ice Battery". In the center of him you can see the figure of Prince Alexander Nevsky Riding on horseback, and next to Him, Boyarin and Hiking Vityazy, as if frozen in full combat readiness.
