New Year in Salzburg

New 2014 I was lucky to meet in the beautiful Austrian city of Salzburg. And it was an unforgettable bright holiday, one of the best in my life.

Among all Western European cities, it is Salzburg that is famous for popular walking, a variety of music and just an unforgettable atmosphere on New Year's holidays. And so, everything is in order. Salzburg's city is small, about 2 hours a slow walk through the historical center you can bypass it, looking at the most interesting sights. Personally, I would recommend watching the Castle Hohensalzburg - the pearl of the Middle Ages, the House of Mozart, the Cathedral of St. Peter, stroll a park Mirabel and, of course, to visit the store where the real (original) Mozart marzart is selling. That's just worth such candy will be more expensive. Little box (9 candies) - 12 euros.

As for our celebration, it should be noted, in Salzburg New Year is a holiday, first of all, young people. Somewhere to ten in the evening, everyone is beginning to pull up to the main square of the city - Residentsplatz. Music concerts are held here, plays predominantly rock music, there is fairs on the square, where you can buy warming mulled wine and food. Incredible atmosphere, believe me. Nearby (on Mozart Square) is a skating rink, where you can spend a great time. And when the new year remains for half an hour, it begins just universal madness. Everyone begins to run salutes, thundering so that words simply do not describe. By the way, the salutes are best looking from the bridge. And remember that the New Year's Eve catch a free taxi is simply unrealistic, so it is better to think about how you will get to the hotel.

As for the shops, they still work on New Year's Eve longer, but by ten in the evening almost all closed. January first open at about twelve hours. But the cafes and restaurants prolong the working day and despite the fact that visitors on New Year's Eve are a lot, find a secluded place in a good restaurant.

By the way, if you see that toy pigs are sold in all shops and tents, do not be surprised. The Austrians have such a tradition - to give pigs, as they are considered a symbol of well-being and wealth!

I wish you exciting travel and celebrations of the New Year!
