Kutaisi can become an unexpected find, the city is very interesting and coloring. On a cozy small, lively, with monuments of antiquity and modern non-standard architecture. I liked the city and seemed completely different.
I will start with the fact that the city allows you to see not only Georgia a new, restored, and the real old one. The historical center of the city can be attributed to the first category. Small, but very beautiful piece of Europe. Here you can take a walk through the streets surrounded by two-storey houses and paved slanting, go to the main city square with the statue of David Builder and the fountain, decorated with gold-plated figures of animals and people.
See the gymnasium in which the Poet Mayakovsky and the author of the words for the song "Suliko" Akai Tsereteli studied. From here, not far to a small park, named after the actress Veriko Andzhaparidze, in which there are very unusual women's sculptures. And already from this place, it is easy to get to the famous white bridge, on the railing of which is sitting a bronze boy with two hats. In this part of the city there are completely unique and interesting buildings and monuments, the latter in the city is not enough, some very unexpected.
Cuting into one of the alleys, next to the city museum, you can get tight into a part of the historic center, which did not reach restoration work. The contrast between the posed by central and nearby side streets such that it seemed to me that I had in the past, at least for half a century ago. North from the center, on the shores of a very beautiful river Rioni, over the rocky steep shore, there are houses, as if built at least a hundred years ago, and between them winding southern streets. You will be in these places - Be sure to visit it, it is worth seeing.
Being in Kutaisi, it is impossible not to visit the Orthodox Church of Bagrat, which was built in 1003, and recently was renovated. The temple is acting, you can stay in service, and having come from the southern entrance, see the remnants of an old painting on the ceiling and walls. It is interesting not only the building itself, the remains of the fortress wall are preserved around it, whose age is more than a thousand years. This is the main attraction of Kutaisi, whom locals are proud of. You can get here on foot from the city center, not more than half an hour, but you can on the cable car.
And a completely modern building, to look at which almost all tourists come - the new Parliament of Georgia, the construction of which was completed quite recently. Nearby there is another glass building, opposite which several interesting sculptures, whether fairy, or other mythical or fabulous characters.
There is another Kutaisi, with five-storey Khrushchev and an industrial zone, but even there is a unique Georgian flavor.
