Wels - a typical, small town located in the center of the upper part of Austria that off the coast of the River Traun. You can characterize the town as a typical Austrian province, although with a rich historical past. Wels are rather a historic highlight of Austria than the tourist city. It is interesting primarily to local artists, historians and archaeologists. And first of all, archaeologists, because at the site of modern Wiels, in ancient times the city of Olivia Roman Empire was located, subsequently destroyed to the base of the tribes of Gerullov. The present, modern Wels rather looks like a city - fair.
By the way, the International Agricultural Fair Plus is held in the city, the international exhibition "Solar Energy Fair", dedicated to the achievements in the use of solar energy in domestic and industrial purposes. But, again, such events are only interesting in the limited category of the population, and there are no tourists to the city at all attract. Much more interesting to get to Wels when there is a traditional Veief Fair. Then the town is transformed completely, the city center (namely the central square of Stadtplatz turns into a solid anthill or trading series. The rest of the time (between the fairs), Wels subsides, the time as if it would stop and the category of tourists who come to admire the city, "Weather" on the tourist field no longer makes.
But, despite the above, the written city still has some attractive force, primarily its historical buildings. Here are perfectly preserved architectural and historical monuments. The most majestic place in this respect is the Statplatz Square.
Located not far from the City Town Hall (by the way, the same architectural monument) the area around the perimeter walls the walls of the vintage houses, and the area is adjacent to the serf gate of the Lacely Man. This architectural ensemble is almost the most ancient factor of Wiel, created in the XIII century, perfectly preserved, is one of the city's business cards. A very interesting building in architectural style is the former imperial castle in which the emperor Maximilian I has held his last days.
I highly recommend watching this masterpiece of architecture. The official name of this place, recorded in all booklets and maps of the city - the "Cultural Center in the City Fortress" (Kulturzentrum Burg Wels).
For tourists and everyone, the complex is open daily from 10:00 to 17:00, except weekends and holidays. On such days, access to raritets is open only until 12:00. It is noteworthy that the first building from all this complex, called the lock (or residence) was built at the beginning of the 7th century. The Castle organized a house - a museum, which presents interior items, exhibits reflecting the entire history of Wiels. In the center of the courtyard, as a sign of respect for the genus of the Habsburgs, a monument to the imperial person is established (namely to the emperor Maximilian I).
Two pedestrian streets are departed from the square, leading no time in the working quarters. Streets today are called the names of people who reflect the life activity here. Bakery Street (Backergasse), Kuznetsov Street (Schmiedgasse). The city authorities succeeded (in most cases) to preserve a certain initial type of buildings and reproduce the spirit of the time. Both Streets as it were, and in the end, everyone goes out (scared) to the main square of Stadtplatz and Boulevard Ring.
A mass of small shops, a variety of cafes, which sells local alcoholic beverages (Schnaps and Liquor), and souvenir shops are also located on narrow streets of the "Former Workers' Areas".
Everything for tourists, which is not too much here.
One of the innovations organized by the city administration to attract tourists is a whole cascade "Veloriksh". So if you are tired walking, there is always an alternative.

It is worth paying attention to the city museum of Wiels. In the museum's expositions, the most powerful information about the history of the city starting with the era of the Roman Empire, confirmed by archaeological finds. The museum stores exclusive materials, documents and exhibits, however, there are special interest in them only from specialists, a simple man in the tourist (tourist), these expositions are interesting to the maximum "at once." We were not too impressed by this, such museums are full - fully in every major city, both with us and abroad.
What the most liked is the museum of dolls.
The collection of dolls in the museum is simply enormous, there are at least 2500 copies. I want to pay special attention to the collection of dolls brought from Paris in the XVIII century. Here, admiring these, it would seem simple things indeed not boring (as ordinary museums). A wonderful collection is interesting not only to adults, but also to children. After all, by the method of execution, alongside the dolls, you can track some story and the fashion of those distant times.
If you get tired of architectural masterpieces, I advise you a little distracting and visit the Ornithological Park in Schmiding, which is in the suburbs of Wiels. The park shows up to 350 types of feathered with different parts of the globe. Birds live very freely, in vivo. Visiting the park is not just a wonderful rest, but also a wonderful, cognitive excursion. At the entrance, in addition to the booklet and the park scheme, you can buy special feed for feathery. In short, the best place to relax with the usual tourist in Welse is not found.
Having seen enough Wels's pretters, we recommend a pleasant and wellness holiday in the beautiful SPA center "Bad Schallerbach". The presence of hot, mineral natural sources in it will not only improve your health, but also "rolled" fatigue and improve the mood.
Summing up the above, I would like to note that the city of Wels as a tourist city is not very talking. Visit, of course, Wels can, but so "for yourself", just for the collection. Otherwise there is nothing to do there. All attractions, architectural masterpieces can be viewed in one day. Not impressive somehow. Austria has more popular places and cities for a tourist.
