The Abkhaz Resort Sukhum is located 115 kilometers from the border with the Russian Federation, and it is considered one of the farthest resorts in Abkhazia. We can say that there is still only one very rarely visited by Russian tourists, the resort of Ochamchir. Despite the fact that Sukhum is the capital and there is even a private airport, still you can get here only on the ground by bus, by car or by train.
For citizens of the Russian Federation, of course, it is best to get on the territory of Abkhazia to the Sukhum resort through the checkpoint "PSOU", and on the inner passport and not use foreign. The fact is that if you arrive on the territory of Abkhazia in a foreign passport, according to you, we naturally put a mark on the crossing of the border, which can then lead to serious problems if you are going to visit Georgia. Well, if you want to use the official path and go there through the territory of Georgia, you need to enter the foreign passport after you get the appropriate permission.
Accordingly, the nearest passenger airport to Sukhum is located in one of the districts of the city of Sochi, or rather in Adler. There are many flights from different regions of the Russian Federation flying there, including you can choose some favorable fare with a change in Moscow. It is best to do buy tickets in advance, because in the high season the prices of them are significantly rising.
The airport is approximately 10 kilometers from the border crossing to PSOU and 125 kilometers from the city of Sukhum. Therefore, in order to get here again you need to first cross the state border through the PPP "PSOU". This way is easy to do on your own by bus, by car, by train with a transplant or it will be necessary to order any tourist transfer, which is an analogue of a taxi.
Taxi drivers at the airport with a very big reluctance agree to go directly to Sukhum because for this they have to cross the border, and they are losing a lot of time. In accordance with this, they expose very high prices. It is much easier possible and even much cheaper to get to the taxi, making a transplant on the border. That is, you first reach the car from the airport in Adler to PPP "PSOU", and there on your own on foot, go through the border, well, on the other side you can already take a taxi that brings you directly to Sukhum.
If you do not want to bother with transfers with the passage of the border on foot, then you are best to order a tourist transfer, which in this case will probably be much cheaper than a taxi trip. In this case, the transfer driver will in advance will meet you at the airport after arrival with the sign and brings you across the border directly to the place you need in the city.
Of course, one of the cheapest options to get from the airport to Sukhum is a bus, but then again will have to make a transplant. First, at the airport, it will be necessary to sit on the city bus number 173, which will take you to the PPP "PSOU", then move the border on foot, and then take the route taxi, next to Sukhum.
All buses from the Abkhaz side are departed from the station Square, that is, from the bus station. At the Abkhaz side, minibuses to Sukhum begin to go to 7 am, and finish at about 9 pm. The movement interval is 20-30 minutes, and the minibuses are sent as filling. It will be necessary to spend more than 2 hours on the way, and the fare is 250 rubles.
In the Sukhumi itself, all minibuses arrive at the bus station, which is opposite the railway station. Since this place is located almost on the outskirts of the city, then from there to the hotel you will have to get either on urban transport, or order a taxi. Please note that there are minibuses, following the gala, and they pass through the city by its main street, so sometimes it is much more convenient to go to it, because in this case you can already get to the hotel.
It is very convenient to get to Sukhum in the summer, because during this period there are trains from Moscow, Belgorod, St. Petersburg, Samara, Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don and Belorechensk. If there are no such trains from your region, you can easily take the train to Adler, and there to transfer to the train, or on the bus that will take you to Sukhum. The schedule must be specified on the official website of Russian railways.
Also in the summer, bus tours from many cities of the country are organized from Russia to Sukhum. They are either sold by tour operators or auto carriers themselves. The passage on such a bus is usually a bit cheaper than by train, however, by amenities and in time, they are significantly inferior.
Therefore, this option should be used only in the most extreme case. Also from the southern regions of the Russian Federation, then from Moscow and some of some regions of Central Russia can be easily accessible to Sukhum on the international bus.
If you go by car in Sukhum from the Russian Federation, you will again need to be focused on the PPP "PSOU", which is located on the border with Abkhazia in the Krasnodar Territory in the village of Cheerful Adler district. The whole road to the border will be held along the Black Sea coast, bypassing the city of Big Sochi, but note that this is the only way here.
If you have never traveled through this road, you should keep in mind that the plot from the Jubga village and to the checkpoint is a very complex mountain winding road with a length of 200 kilometers. However, to drive it at good weather and with a free highway, you can at least 5-6 hours, and gasoline on this segment of the path will be spent decently. But after you pass the border on the checkpoint, then before Sukhum you will stay only 120 kilometers, and with a flat good road.
