Mariupol is a half-million city of Donetsk region, located on the shores of the Azov Sea, about forty kilometers from the border with the Rostov region (Novoazovsk border crossings - Fun-Voznesenka). Taganrog - about a hundred kilometers. Without a car, you can get here on buses (the geography of the routes is very wide) and on trains (there is a dead-end branch from Donetsk to the city). I arrived (and left) on a comfortable minibus.
First of all it is a city of metallurgists and a large seaport.
Attractions are almost no. There are, of course, monuments, and beautiful squares, but the old days are very small.
The beach is excellent here. On weekday, people are very small (most work, and tourists do not complain the city). Clean sand, free shower, warm sea.
But on the one hand there is a giant azovstal, and on the other - the trading port.
Another huge plant, MMK named after Ilyich, is located at the other end of the city and primarily due to developed metallurgy in the city always stinks.
When I visited the city, the media did the flu epidemic, but the locals stopped little.
Yes, and I did not stop - I was happy with pleasure.
I would not advise Mariupol as a resting place - bad when always stinks. Ride in the direction of Berdyansk - near the highway will find a lot of resort villages - Urzuf, Yalta (not confused with Crimean), Mulene. And Berdyansk himself is also wonderful for rest on the sea coast.
