A visit to the city of Serpukhov will be of course interesting to those travelers who are interested in Russian history and its old cities. Here you can see the true monuments of Russian antiquity - churches and monasteries built in the period from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century, the remains of the fortress walls of the thirteenth century, as well as the merchants' houses and estates of the eighteenth-nineteenth centuries.
Start acquaintance in the city is best with visiting the historical and artistic museum, which is located in an old merchant house, who previously belonged to the family of marata textile workers. Here you can see the canvas of famous Russian music artists, as well as the work of Shishkin and Aivazovsky. Particularly interesting exhibition of exotic and local minerals.
A separate hall in the museum is dedicated to the former main owner of this house Anna Vasilyevna Marayeva. It was at her request that the famous architect Klein was made by the project of the estate and a number of churches. After visiting the museum, you can immediately go to the Vysotsky Monastery, the benefit is quite nearby. Then you can visit the introduced female monastery with ancient icons and frescoes, and completely stunning architecture. If you wish, you can ask for some nun, so that she will spend you on the territory of the monastery. It is possible that you will see the place of peacocks in a specially designated place for them, which everyone loves to photograph. Especially good luck for photographers occasion when peacocks completely dismiss their tail. Serpukhov, by the way, there is even a small museum dedicated to peacocks, which naturally can be visited if desired.
On the Red Mountain near the Trinity Cathedral, you can see an accurate copy of the sculpture of the liberator soldier, which is located in Berlin. And then it is worth looking into the Troitsky Cathedral of the seventeenth century buildings. On weekdays, a small local lore museum is open at the temple, in which you can get acquainted with the history of the city and the edge.
It should be undoubtedly also to visit the church of Nicholas the Wonderworker, who was previously called the Church of Nikola White. This temple is considered a monument to the architecture of the nineteenth century, which was erected in the "Moscow Ampire" style from a unique local limestone.
In Serpukhov, quite beautiful vintage buildings, but, unfortunately, many of them require urgent restoration. Therefore, it is desirable to inspect them until they finally fall apart. First of all, it concerns the luxurious day of the living room, which was actually the center of Serpukhov's life. Now there are some shops and cafes there, but about the already greatness, of course, nothing reminds.
A little more lucky the building of the former Zemstvo administration - at least they regularly follow and even paint along the tradition in a bright blue color. Since the Soviet street is built up mainly by modern houses, then a white-blue building looks very effectively on their background.
And one more old building designed by the famous architect KNORRE, it still functions so far. This is the railway station of Serpukhov, which was built in the mid-nineteenth century and still performs its main function - meets and accompanses all guests of the city.
In the vicinity of Serpukhov, it is necessary to visit two unusually interesting places. The first is the natural and biosphere reserve called "Prioksko-terrace", in which the bison live. Three years after the end of World War II, two animals were brought from Poland here, and now in the reserve there are about sixty individuals, and they feel great.
The second object is an ostrich farm in the village of Old Kuzmenki. In addition to ostrich, you can see camels, indulge and rabbits. Ostrichs love to be photographed and treat with hands. Children can visit a small workshop where they will be taught to paint eggs.
