Heat and Green Island: Kherson Spring

With the word "Kherson", many Ukrainians and guests of the country arises such an association: "Iron Port". At the moment it is one of the most popular Ukrainian seaside resorts, for sure because it is not expensive to relax there. Minibuses to the Iron port flooded the entire railway station. But I had a chance to visit Kherson in mid-April 2019.

One of the advantages of Kherson is its transport infrastructure. I came from Kiev by train. Travel in the jewelry car cost me almost 10 dollars. It is in modern standards inexpensive, based on the fact that the reserved seats would cost $ 7-8. A variant and bus is possible, but the price will be twice as high.

Second plus - urban transport. It goes regularly, but you get to the minibus with difficulty. We drove to the conference in the Kherson State University, and there was a question: straight on trolleybus, or with a transplant on a minibus. We chose a minibus, but apparently made a mistake. For travel to the stop "Tsum" paid 6 hryvnias (a quarter of a dollar), but the entire road was stood up between passengers. It is good that the driver turned out to be benevolent and told us where to go out (not everyone will be different in our time such indulgence). As a result, we decided to walk to the university. And not mistaken. Here we certainly did not tex.

As for the university itself, it is located close to the embankment. On the road to university, we saw a lot of green plantings and parks. Surprisingly clean, fresh air, people smile. Yes, the roads are broken, like everywhere. But what can you do with this?

At the university, there is also a parking zone. Local residents come here, sit on a bench, breathe fresh air. In the university park itself there is a kiosk with coffee and tea, a smoking room, at the university you can buy interesting literature, including the city itself, magnets and key chains. Across the university is a hostel (in one of them we stayed for 4 dollars per day), Cafe "Univer" with a magnificent kitchen and low prices (Plate of rice with vegetables - 75 cents, cabbage salad - 75 cents, glass of juice - 40 cents ; optionally you can buy pizza and confectionery), shops.

ATB supermarket is a ten minute from the university (Ukraine is considered one of the cheapest with a wide range of products), a confectionery factory (candy quality, of course, on an amateur, but local buy, we also took it), Park "Kherson Fortress" ("Khersonsk Fortce "), Embankment, Catherine Cathedral.

We walked through the park, where traditionally on May 9 lay flowers to the monument to the victims of the warriors. It was not easy to go down to the Dnieper, as it was necessary to overcome not one dozen steps.

Using google cards, we went out on the embankment on the other hand. And found themselves at the monument to the first shipments.

Unfortunately, in Kherson we have stayed only two days. No discomfort experienced people friendly, open. Russian-speaking city, many signs in Russian. In some places, the city reminded Soviet times, especially if we talk about parks and roads, urban architecture. It cannot be said that there are a lot of attractions in the city: two days with head are enough to study all facilities, including the local history museum and theater. But this feature is characteristic of almost all regional centers of Ukraine. Of the minuses - water quality: chlorination was made to our arrival in Kherson. Of the advantages - low prices (compared to other regional centers of Ukraine), leisureness of life and provincial calm, many parks and greens. But nevertheless, walking along Kherson, you understand that you are, albeit in a small but city, the city of sailors and open people.
