Speaking of Grodno, in thoughts the image of a rich old city, the center of cultural and political life stands. And it is no coincidence. After all, this is not just a regional center in the West of Belarus, but also one of its oldest cities, which is already about a thousand years. Grodno not only attracts tourists closeness to the Polish and Lithuanian border, and consequently, tempting goods and prices for them in stores and markets, but also pleases the inhabitants and their guests with excellent architectural monuments.
One of the main attractions is Grodno is Borisoglebskaya (Cleaner) Church, which towers over the beautiful and full-flowing river Nemn. But this is not just one of the many Belarusian churches. Knock was built in the 12th century and preserved to the present day, that is, this is the oldest monument of cult architecture in the country. Climbing her onto the high bank of the river, you can not only admire the beauty of medieval architecture, but also to feel a special spirit, touched to one of the stones. The walls of the preserved facades (two of them in the middle of the 19th century during the landslide moved to Neman and are now replaced by wooden) are decorated with treated boulders, tiles. In addition, the Church is still interesting for its own ballots - vessels embedded in the walls for better acoustics. It is difficult to imagine that it is still acting, but it is. So do not miss the opportunity to admire this unsurpassed testimony of the antiquity.
Very near the sets of old and new castles. The Grodno Old Castle began to be built in the 11th century, and the last buildings appeared here in the 19th century. Now the castle is leading a beautiful stone arched bridge, and inside there is the main and richest exposition of the historical and archaeological museum. The new castle, in essence, the Royal Palace, built in the 18th century in the Baroque style still attracts guests. And not only with its beautiful appearance, against the background of which you can successfully take a picture, but also in it the historical museum, as well as the regional library.
One of the most majestic and beautiful Grodno attractions can be rightfully called the Farny (Cathedral) Church of St. Francis Xavieri, which appeared here at the 17th - 18th centuries. It strikes not only a magnificent appearance, but also a luxurious inner decoration, unsurpassed fresco paintings and sculpture. Be sure to pay attention to the tower clock, adorning the Tower of the Cathedral, because they are the oldest in Europe, made back at the end of the 15th century for the Town Hall building and transferred here in the 18th century.
Next to the church is another local attraction - the building is the first pharmacy in Europe, which was opened in 1687. Now it is not only an outstanding monument of architecture, but also a valid pharmacy museum.
From the church of the Far Church, you can make a small walk along the pedestrian street of Soviet, filled with comfort and romance.
Getting acquainted with the sights of Grodno, you can not pass by an unusual monument of already modern architecture. This is the building of the Grodno Regional Drama Theater, built in 1984. It impresses not only impressive sizes, but also unusual architectural solutions and an extraordinary appearance.
Grodno is a truly European city in a sense. And not only thanks to the geographic proximity to the Western border of Belarus, but a special atmosphere, an interesting and rich architecture history. In Grodno, you can see Lutheran Kirch, built in the 18th century, a monastery of brigitties or basilians. There are many other interesting places here, which can also be visited. This is the picturesque Park of Zheliber, and the Grodno Zoo, and much more.
