Having bought a tour to Spain in the travel agency, we immediately started planning our vacation. The main place of our accommodation was the city of Pineda de Mar, located on the Costa Brava coast in Catalonia. But we wanted to see different Spain, and then we decided to go for a few days in Bilbao and visit the coast of the Atlantic Ocean.
In Bilbao, we flew on the plane from Barcelona, bought inexpensive tickets from the local Louotic Vueling. The first to pay attention to, coming out from Bilbao Airport, is incredibly clean and fresh air. This is not surprising, because Bilbao is surrounded by the mountains. The city seems to be in the bowl. By bus, we got from the airport to the city center and, by passing the Gugenheim Museum dedicated to modern art, went to search for our hostel.
Bilbao enters the area that carries the name of the Basque Country. This city surprisingly combines the greatness of old buildings and modern architecture, which has recently paid to special attention. Lovers of historic buildings must see the Cathedral of St. James and the Church of St. Anthony, made in the Gothic style. It is worth stroll through the central streets with the spirit of monumentality and the old days. It also makes the impression that you turned out somewhere on the expanses of England. There are many shops, cafes, restaurants, banks in the city center. Since we were here in August, I was very successful for seasonal sales.
It is worth noting that almost no one understands in local catering establishments in English, so it was necessary to explain at the level of gestures and pulling a finger in the menu.
During our stay in Bilbao, we managed to ride the subway, consisting of two lines, as well as by bus with a wonderful Bilbobus inscription. Everything is very clean, in excellent condition. It is on the subway that you can get to the end station Plenzia, and then walk to the coast of the Biscay Bay. Here you will find both wild rocky beaches and urban beach with soft yellow sand. Nearby there is cafes and restaurants where you can have a snack.
The greatness of the Atlantic Ocean, fascinating architecture and incredibly beautiful mountains waiting for everyone who decides to come to the wonderful city of Bilbao. Of course, it is not one and not for two days to go here, so as to fully enjoy the beauty of this amazing place.
