In Greece, a great many sea resorts, several large islands, but it was Rhodes that, in my humble opinion, close to the ideal and most suitable for the statement "everything is in Greece." The impressions that you get in the capital of the island, so much contrast with what you see on the other side of this relatively small barrel of the Earth - that it is really impressive.
I will begin with the fact that Greece remains yourself and can easily forget about something, including tourists. Upon arrival, we were stated that the hotel that was chosen in advance from the operator - closed on repair and setting it in it. It did not work out from great surprise, and I do not exaggerate, such news may fall on you not what the day or two before departure, but directly when leaving the island airport of the diaphores. Well, we will not be two deaths, we thought - and, at the insistence of one of the guides, exchanged our 4 stars on 4+, settled in the town of Lindos, in a decent distance from the Rhodes itself, in the hotel of the same name, but only with the princess console . This hotel turned out to be more than excellent, but not about him. I will say honestly, I have always been a fan of direct beach holidays, I never sedrated excursions, markets, shops, walks in picturesque places and so on, all this was happy to joy on the beach, sun and bar, never spare. I did not regret this time when I changed my principles and turned from a tourist in a chaise lounge in a photocouple with Panama on my head, wondering everywhere and clicking the shutter.
Despite the fact that Rhodes is not the largest island of Greece - he is the most diverse. And do not believe those who say that there is nothing special in it, assuring that the nature needs to go to Corfu, but for civilization - to Crete. The review hero is divided into, say, three zones, it is historical and urban, with a decent size in the size of the capital of the same name, in which modernity and the Middle Ages, a neutral zone with cute villages, in which it is convenient to do shopping, as well as wild, small-populated southern part, and Which is drowning in greenery and mountains. Therefore, if you were not on Island Greece - it is Rhodes that is your choice, since it will more fully pass the local flavor, a kind of option 3 in 1. Excursions are unlikely to pass all the paints of the island. Personally, I visited the overview in the old city within the fortress wall. The city is great, but the excursion, in view of the Greek temperament and mentality - some kind of boring, or something. Because the next day the car was rented immediately for three days and we went on a trip. I will say right away that for full coverage you will have two days and two days, it is so much that without fanatism to drive around the island completely, paying time to sights, and there are not enough of them: vintage churches and monasteries with beautiful myths, a park of five sources, the bay of lovers, where in contact Two seas ... Now let's go back to why you need to drive well: one lane in every side, steep climbs and descents, constant serpentines with dizzying from beauty and a height of species - this is not an exaggeration, you have to be very careful, but the risk justifies myself completely. Moreover, you do not have to stop almost anywhere, it is enough to enjoy outstanding beauty in the course of the movement.
To summarize the resume I want a phrase: if you wish to see Greece - go to Rhodes. Here, indeed, everyone will find a passion for themselves, and friendly and hospitable locals organize excellent European service even though they rest more than they work. This is perhaps the only place I recommend without any "but".
