Approximately 220 km from Yangon's popular tourists there is one interesting town, where it is certainly worth a trip, being in those edges. We are talking about town Towngu. The city is known in the Burmese history of the Towngu dynasty, which ruled the country for more than 200 years (between the 16th and 18th centuries). That is, Towngu was the capital of Burma in 1510-1539 and 1551-1552.
The city with an ancient history is a worthy stop for those who have time for a leisurely study of Burma. Yes, the town today is not too rich in the sights, but there is plenty of what could be pumped and how to have fun. The city center is surrounded by the RVOM, and its most picturesque part - along the East. The rest of the parts are not so well preserved. Inside this area you will find all the main objects of the city. By the 500th anniversary of the town (namely, October 16, 2010) many attractions were restored and reconstructed.
Most hotels where foreigners can accommodate are located outside the historic center, about a 10-minute cycling ride south along the Town-Yangon road. However, a couple of newly renovated and relatively inexpensive accommodation options can be found right in the center of Towngu. But there is a lot of food options in the city: an excellent selection of restaurants and beer, in some places from the menu in English and even free WiFi.
Taungoo Airport is the only one in the area. It serves only Myanmar National Airlines and takes regular flights from Yangon, Mandalay, Napjido, Loyko, Tachile, Maurine and Taundji. Also in the city there are railway lines and good highways (actually, and buses are driving around the city). The population of the town is only about 120 thousand people: Burmese, Chinese, Hindus, Peoples Shan and Karen. Well, among the main attractions of the city - Pagoda Stewsendo-Payya, Miasigon-Payya, Kaunmo-Pai I (and three more things) and Elephant nursery Targayia.
Also in this town you can go to beautiful KandaWggyi and Kaytumaddy gardens, admire Bridges Kaphaung and Sittaung to visit the city market and Bayinnaung and KayinmaZay markets And also go to the only 3D Cinema in the city, which is very superfluous (and full of).
