Once upon a time I adhered to politics "choosing your hotel." It implied literally the following: if I plan to relax in the country several times, then I choose the hotel "in the soul" and stay in it all the time. It was necessary to reconsider our views (and a little because of Thailand).
The fact is that Kathmandu always becomes the main place of deployment on arrival in Nepal for me. In Kathmandu, there is no unwindy area of the Tamat, a kind of tourist ghetto and in the Tamall of hotels and guesthouses a great set (if you believe the guide - about 200).
I started my acquaintance with tourist services from two popular hotels (at least among Russian-speaking travelers) - Tibet Guesthouse and Buddha Garden Hotel. At the time of the first settlement (2008), the price / quality ratio was above all praise. Over time, I began to visit doubts - is it worth stopping in them? In this 2012-2013, with a clean conscience, new hotels opened new hotels and no regret at all.
Now briefly my opinion about each hotel who visited.
Tibet Guesthouse - the cost of 1800 for a double bed in Delux, the hotel is large, popular, from attractions nearby (about 4 km), prepare delicious, but in the last couple of years the price tag began to "blow up", and the rooms, understandable things, are not new ... From pleasant little things personally for me - the availability of air conditioning, but even for me it is not the most fundamental question.
Devachan - positions yourself as a guest house, it is possible to stay with amenities on the floor (500 rubles) or in a deluxe with a bathroom (1500 rubles). When booking, the bargain is appropriate, I am in correspondence with the hotel manager so the price with 1700 lowered to 1500. The last option was selected. The number itself in the usual understanding of Deluxe cannot be positioned, but in comparison with some guesthouses, he, of course, at height.
The room is spacious, the bathroom is, Wi-Fi has. Repair "Not Fresh", the impression of the hotel is some dull. Smoking at the hotel and in the territory is impossible. Benefits include the location (slyambunath nearby).
Buddha Garden Hotel - This year I forgave last year's inconsistency price / quality. Fresh repairs are made, clean rooms, neat, "fly did not sit", a cozy courtyard, balconies, a great location, the price "grown up", but, fortunately, not much - 1600 rubles (it was 1400). This price includes tax and breakfast. Breakfast is quite edible, the staff without complaints, I would even say with sympathy).
The next item is expensive, Patos Place Hotel Yak & Yeti. Is it worth spending such a high budget (about 11,000 rubles) for accommodation in Kathmandu, where can I spend the night in Geste for 300 rubles? Yes.
Yes, and I regret that this hotel is worth so much, but it really costs it. The appearance of the night photography is impeccable, and in the afternoon, the gloss has several "shabby" views in the old wing. But this is just outside, inside the hotel everything is very good, clean, beautiful.
The room has absolutely everything, the hotel has two buildings, the one is older - part of the Maharaj's Palace. Actually, because of this wing, the opinion that the hotel was more than a hundred years old, but it is not. A loan under his construction gave the President of the World Bank solely due to the merits of Boris Lisanevich. The hotel was rebuilt in 1977. For climbers Bar Yak & Yeti cult place to this day.
In the restaurant, be sure to try duck! Plates visited, but the taste of dishes is divine! If you were not gourmet before visiting the Yak & Yeti restaurant, after you, you simply have no options. Even when I stop not in him, dinner legs themselves carry here.

Completing the review of hotels in which I happened to live, you should mention that I did not immediately become so picky. There were in my story and much more modest guesthouses (they are also glad to tourists). For example, Freaky Street will delight you with prices 2-5 dollars per room, more precisely for bed-room in it. The walls will be cardboard / plywood, the washbasin is general, but Nepal and Kathmandu from this do not lose their charms at all.
In Kathmandu, you can find accommodation for every taste and any budget, my opinion about hotels is subjective, perceive it as useful information that gives a general idea of existing options. This is not a direct guide to action, because perhaps some of the hotels that did not come to my "favorites", you will have to do you like.
