Perhaps for someone it will be a surprise, but Yantar in Latvia is currently not mined. The stone itself and the pretty share of its processed versions in the form of jewelry and souvenirs are taken from ... Kaliningrad. It is easy to see this, going to the jewelry store and asking the documents for any product.
This does not mean that in Latvia, Yantar buy neither under any kind. In fact, the markup for amber belts is usually 15-20%, although many Russians, with whom I had to communicate on this topic, are confident that the markup is not less than 50%. Anyway, this is not so much, especially if Kaliningrad is not included in your travel plans and still Latvia is associated with "Sunny Stone", so if you want to bring this souvenir - why do you need to refuse yourself? The only thing is to beware of "amber collaps", which are quite a few in Jurmala and other resort places: there are all the stones, most likely fake.
As for me, I found another genus of souvenirs for myself in Latvia, moderately expensive and definitely useful. This is Latvian knitwear. And for sale, too, at every step. For example, in the old town in Riga there is a wonderful shop with a slogan "knick like Latvian!"
There are not only things that can be worn (hats, mittens, etc.), but also knitted interior items - pillows, blankets. And more different creative things, for example, woolen bells.
