Shopping in Jokyakart is not very bad! There is no special pressure from the sellers. Most of the owners of kiosks are polite, allow you to touch and explore the goods without buying it. Prices for most of the goods are fixed. But it may be bad if you know how to bargain. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you will not get at least some kind of discount on a T-shirt (unlike many places where the price will be twice lower when you pretend that you leave the store). And the last but no less important thing: the streets are really safe, even the night market. And here is a couple of towns, where you can go, and that you can buy.
Clothes, Accessories, Shoes
Ambarukmo Plaza. (JL Laksda Adisucipto)
The popular city shopping center is quite popular, Ambarukmo Plaza is located 5 kilometers west of the center of Jokyakarta (if you go on the way to Prambanan). It offers a large selection of boutiques, and there is a good food court, a cinema and a supermarket. Here you will find your favorite snack bars: KFC, Bread Story, Pizza Hut, Starbuck, Jco Doughnut. If you go by taxi, then the shopping center is a 15-minute drive from Maloboro. From both outside and inside, Ambarukmo is nothing but a typical such shopping complex (which is full of us).
Art objects and batik
Lana Gallery. (Jalan Menukan)
A large selection of items of contemporary art from young talented artists, many of whom are graduates of the School of Fine Arts of Jokyakarta. The gallery fills Wilden, one of the most friendly Indonesians you have ever met. There is this store in 2 minutes walk south from Masjid Jami Karangkadzhen.
Batik Plentong. (JL Tirtodipuan 48)
I hope you know what a batik is a painting on the fabric and the Indonesia business card. So, in this store you can get a free excursion to the workshop where this batik produce. And the process is very interesting! This place serves tourist groups, so prices are quite high there - you can follow the process of making a batik here, but buy a batik elsewhere if you are constrained in the means.

Excellent qualitative batik at fixed prices. The best in traditional style is men's shirts here, for example, stand from 200,000RP.
Mirota Batik. (JL A YANI 9)
This is a batik and a craft center, located next to the Beringharjo market in the south of Maloboro Street. Prices in this store are slightly higher than those that you meet on the streets, but then there is more choice. In a high season and on weekends, the store is usually naked by visitors, so come on the days when shopping will be joy. Batik is selling at a fixed price. And also - this is a good place to start shopping. The store is beautifully decorated well, so you definitely not miss it. Batik Rumah (2A Nogosari Kidul Street)
This store was once an ordinary home, and therefore it is among other houses in this a pretty area. Markets and shopping streets
Beringharjo Market.
There are perhaps thousands of kiosks that sell batik, food, ready-made food, fabric, clothing and many others. Here is the market - the market! Some fabrics seem already burnt out, and not that the market is clean. But if you are patient, you can find some interesting things in this market. Stalls with food are scattered around the market.
Malioboro Street.
Who does not like cheap things? And this good is in bulk! This shopping street consists of an infinite row of stalls - many of which are just a table. The street is located in the very center of the city, so there are a lot of people here. From small food kiosks near expensive to giant fast food networks, from exquisite boutiques and inexpensive stores with souvenirs to supermarkets - this is what this Maloboro is. By the way, this is a historic place, as many of the buildings located along the street were built into the Dutch era.
T-shirts, batik, souvenirs and various traditional pieces are sold here, such as rattan wallets and silver jewelry. It's just nice to walk along this street, and maybe even better than the Beringharjo market. Well, the shopping wallet on this street is a special blow to applies - everything is really cheap. For example, a T-shirt can be bought in just 15,000 rupees. Many of the souvenirs are for sale for RP 20000 per piece. But you should not expect too high quality, although many things are quite interesting!
Naturally, if you are offered silver rings for 1 dollar, then no silver is. Street turns into a gigantic anthill after sunset. And on Saturday and Sunday it is the ocean of people. And much less people on Monday night. By the way, tourists are smaller here than local residents. And in the evenings, there is very fun here - traditional music plays, someone dancing.
