Rijeka is first of all one of the most important port cities of Croatia, a major industrial center (it is very clearly visible on the entrances to the city) and only then - the tourist city. Its historical center is not big, but very pleasant and it will certainly be worth walking and look at the following sights:
Pedestrian Street Korzo and City Tower
A small, but very picturesque street of Corzo - the heart of the historic part of Rijeki. And the main thing its decoration is the city tower of Riekie with the clock. Initially, the tower was built in the XIII century, but the century from the century it was completed and complemented. So, there was a double-headed eagle, watches, coat of arms of rulers and portraits of emperors, dome was completed. The tower is considered the pride of the city, its symbol, it is the images from the tower to adorn guidebooks, postcards and all sorts of souvenirs.
Old gate
Old gates are ancient of the preserved monuments of Rijeki architecture, part of the city fortress wall or a triumphal arch. Palace of Governor
Located on the Museum Square, the magnificent and pompous palace was built in the best traditions of the architecture of Budapest and was intended for Governor of Rijeka. The last fifty years here is the seaside historical Museum of Croatia's coast. A rich collection of cards, drawings, coins, weapons, sculptures, vessel models is exhibited here.

The cathedral is built in an atypical for Croatian architecture form of the Rotunda and is distinguished by pronounced Renaissance and Baroque features. Be sure to go to the church: there is an old stone crucifixion, which has been considered miraculous.
Church of Ascension of the Immaculate Virgin Mary
The church of the Ascension of the Immaculate Virgin Mary was built on the site of ancient Roman term. The interiors of the Church are amazing: it looks like a picture gallery. For example, the painting of the main altar is a copy of the painting of Titian "Ascension of the Virgin Mary", the rest of the inner decoration is made in the same style.
Kosy Tower
The oblique tower is the bell tower of the Church of the Ascension of the Immaculate Virgin Mary. The tower itself, which eventually leaned over time, for which he received the name of the oblique tower, was built by Venetian. Initially, the bell tower belonged to another temple, now no longer, and differs from the church as a style and a period of construction.
Cappuccous Church and Monastery of Our Lady Lourdes
The Kapolent Church of Our Lady Lurdskaya is directly opposite the entrance to the seaport of the city, on the area of Zhabitsa. The church is made in the latex style of a multicolored stone and is decorated with a mosaic, and the sculptural decorations on the facade were performed by Venetian masters. In the inner decoration of the church, I would like to note the very beautiful painting of the ceilings and stained glass windows depicting the saints. Next to the church, behind the high fence, there is also the Kapuchin Monastery.
Croatian National Theater named after Ivan Zaita

Turkish house
The Turkish house, built in the time of Austria-Hungary, is made in a typical late-year-old style. It is decorated with Arabic, human facilities and ornaments of floral and geometric patterns. The building is considered valuable primarily due to unique decorative arches over the windows.
Castle on the hill TRSAT
The castle, is, of course, is far from the historic center of the city, in the suburbs of Rijeki, but it will certainly worth it. You can get to it either by bus for 15 Croatian kun or on foot. The castle itself, once a former and fortification, and a magnificent gothic architectural monument, later, unfortunately, was destroyed. Now the castle is restored, but you can visit it, and for free. For tourists, an observation deck is open in the main tower, offering excellent views of the surrounding area. If you are lucky, you can get to an exhibition or concert, which are periodically arranged in the courtyard of the castle.
In addition to the castle, there are other attractions in Trasat. For example, the Basilica of the Virgin Mary or the Mother Trustskaya, the Church of St. Jura, thanks to which this suburb of Rijeki is a place of Catholic pilgrimage.
Mobular staircase Pethar circle
The shaft staircase of Petar Courzich connects Rijek with its suburb - Trasat. This stone staircase consists of a 561 stage and leads to the Basilica of the Virgin Trasatkaya, and named after the National Hero of Petar Courzich, who began to build this staircase. At the foot of the stairs are a very beautiful gate, made in the Baroque Tile in the form of a triumphal arch.
