Lappeenranta is located in Eastern Finland.
The town on the territory of historic Karelia, not far from the border of Russia and Finland. The city is small, there are only about 72,000 people. The people lived in this city since the time of the glacial period, caught fish, hunted, then in the Middle Ages began to trade a pine resin, in short, everything was very good. From the 17th century, Lappeenranta was underacted by Sweden and Russia, in the middle of the 18th century, Russia, such a town took away the town, however, by the beginning of the 19th century I gave Finland. House-Museum Volkova
The manor was built in 1826 and changed its owners more than once. Ivan Volkov (Volkoff) moved from Russia to Lappeenranta in the 40s of the 19th century and first worked in one rich family a gardener and butcher. After 30 years, Ivan received the citizenship of Finland and began to engage in trade, and then settled in this house, since the previous owner has already died. The children of Volkova, by the way, also subsequently became famous. In 1986, the relatives of Children of Volkov passed the house to the state, and the building turned into a museum already in 93 years. Today you can learn how merchants lived in those days, the museum room is interesting: women's bedroom, living room, office. There is even a small bakery here, where still bakes on the old Russian recipe for breads. And here is the wine restaurant.

Cavalry Museum of Lappeenranta
The museum is located on the territory of the Linutus fortress - in the former room for the guard. Opened museum in the 70s of the 20th century. The exhibition of the museum is devoted to the thirty-year war. Here you will see ancient paintings and engravings with historical scenes, weapons (in particular, a silicon gun of the 18th century), uniform, old photos, and so on.

SAIMAAN KANAVA MUSEO Museum (Saimaan Kanava Museo)
Symen Canal began to build in the middle of the 19th century, in view of the need for vessels from Lake Saimaa to the Finnish Bay. Channel length - just over 57 km. The Siemena Canal Museum opened in 1995. In the museum you will learn about how Troili and mastered a new channel, you will see layouts of gateways, uniform workers, photos, maps and more.

South Karelia Museum (ETELA-Karjalan Museo)
The museum was opened in 1963, in the houses of the 19th century on the territory of the Linutus fortress. These structures were once used as weapons warehouses. In this museum, you can admire the subjects associated with the history of South Culture culture, in particular, the history of Lapeenter, Vyborg and Priozersk.
People's costumes, mocks of cities, household items, photos and more are exhibited. There is also a separate gallery with archaeological finds.
Sometimes temporary exhibitions on historical subjects are held at the museum. For children there is a games room, as well as in the museum there is a souvenir shop.

Art Museum of South Karelia
South Kareli Art Museum opened in 1965. It is in an interesting neoclassical building. In this museum you can admire the works of Finnish artists from the mid-19th century and by our time. Very interesting, the exposition of modern art of Southeast Finland (from the 60s of the 20th century and at the present time). Sometimes the museum hosts exhibitions of works of young Finnish artists. Pay attention to the Hall of Folk Creativity (18-20th century).

Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin
This Orthodox Church is the oldest Church of Lappeenranta. She works since 1740. The church is small, squat, with light gray walls and a green roof and domes, topped with golden crosses.

Church of Sammonlachti
The church is relatively young, opened its doors to parishioners in 1992, on Mary's Day. This church is also called the "Church for Travelers", probably because it is very popular among tourists. Outside, the church looks quite cosmmatically, made of red brick, and "composed" from massive geometric shapes: in the center of the cylinder, on the sides - two rectangular attachments, then square facilities, and bell tower. Such, the modern church, everything is very concise, strictly. Inside the unusual ceiling is drawn inside the eye of space, and a small altar, as well as an organ on the side. Interesting place!

Linnutus Fortress (Linnoitus)
Main landmark Lappeenranta. She was built the Swedes in the early 18th century to protect their borders. By decree Alexander Suvorov later, the fortress was expanded, and she began to defend Peter. By the way, almost all structures in the fortress built in that era, when Lappeenranta was part of Russia. From the fortress walls today little remains. Inside are churches, museums, craft shops. There is a fortress in the northern part of the city.
