As such as the city of Zagreb - the beautiful capital of Croatia began with a small settlement, formed as a result of a merger in the VII century two small towns - Grades and Captol. The main part of the buildings of the medieval zagreb is safe and preservation to this day. The upper city, located in the northeastern part of the capital, contains monuments of ancient culture and ancient buildings, well, the lower city is mainly built up with modern buildings. From the beginning of the XIII century, there were buried in the cathedral not only by the highest church hierarchs, but also representatives of the Croatian nobility. Literally next to the cathedral is the Archbishop Palace, built in the classic Baroque style. Work on the restructuring of the palace was carried out for a very long time - from the XIII to the XIX century. One of the oldest facilities Zagreb is also considered to be the Franciscan monastery, which exists here with the life of Francis of Assisi, that is, from about the XIII century.
The lower city was built mainly in accordance with urban planning plans drawn up in 1865 and 1889. Therefore, its quarters and parks, as well as the squares and mansions, are mainly fulfilled in unusual styles - neoclassicism, ecocticism and the cossion. On the territory of the Nizhny city there are archaeological museum, the building of the Academy of Sciences and Arts, as well as Gallery of Strostsmayer. On an area that bears the name of the first Croatian king Tomislav, its equestrian monument was established. But the wonderful building of the Croatian National Theater is located on the square of Marshal Tito. This area is very decorated with "Fountain of Life", performed by Ivan Zastrolovich. Not far from the building of the theater is located the popular Mimar Museum, in which the canvas are exhibited by very famous artists.
The largest garden ensemble in Croatia - Maximir, made in English style, spread out in the eastern part of the capital. The time of its foundation refers to the XVIII-XIX centuries. Another excellent sample of English style in Gardening Art is the Miroga Cemetery, which is considered one of the most picturesque in Europe. Special attractions are recognized as entrance doors, and still arcades, located along the western wall. They are buried the most famous and rich inhabitants of the capital of Croatia.
